Texan
Kelly Clarkson
has come a long way since winning TV reality show American Idol, writes Dawn
Ellis.
The Grammy Award-winning singer, who performed at Plymouth Pavilions on
Saturday night, has matured since the release of her first album Thankful
and is now more comfortable than ever on stage.
She made it clear to the audience that she is now making the music she
wants, and there is no doubt about it, Kelly now feels at home in her own
skin and is happy to pen her own songs.
Opening with the track One Minute, she whipped off a red ball gown to reveal
a rock chick outfit, much to the delight of the crowd. They were on form and
clapped, screamed, swayed and reacted to her banter. She belted out ballad
after ballad with emotion and her voice was faultless, hitting every note.
The track Because of You was a definite crowd pleaser and many happily sang
along. Beautiful Disaster, which features on two of her albums, was also one
of the highlights of the night.
However, I thought that during the slower numbers she looked a little static
and could have used more of the stage at times.
During the rockier numbers, such as Miss Independent, Kelly strutted around
the stage as if she owned it. Her most famous hit, Since U Been Gone, also
went down a treat and the crowd went into overdrive.
The concert was taken to another level thanks to dazzling light displays and
striking images on the big screens.
The charismatic Kelly, who has sold more than 23 million albums, could
certainly teach winners of similar shows in the UK a thing or two about
performance
