Liverpudlian singer/songwriter Laura Critchley got tonight’s gig up and running. With a soft, smooth vocal performance that leans towards the Karen Carpenter/Carole King sound and she did herself no harm at all with her short, but sweet set, in gaining new fans and getting even more recognition. It was a shame that the crowd were not more responsive as I think she deserved more from them, but maybe Laura is a bit subtle for the younger Sugababes fans, her songs are highly polished and very easy to listen to, as she has a voice that you can simply enjoy as it washes over you. Her Album should be out soon and will be well worth getting, and if you get a chance to see her perform, take it as you won't regret it.

This has to be a MASSIVE band in the making, Dragonette were a huge surprise, not often is a support band this good. I suppose comparisons to No Doubt are inevitable, but is that a bad thing? The band is three parts Canadian (Martina, Dan and Joel from Toronto) and one part British (Will from London) they now reside in London so hopefully they will be back quickly as I would love to see them as a headline act. They do have a promo only EP out entitled “Dragonette” so hopefully a full album will follow shortly. Squeezed into incredibly tight shorts(?) Martina worked really hard to get the crowd behind them, and used the small amount of stage allocated to her with great confidence and assurance, her voice is superb, not a million miles from Gwen Steffani, and the band is tight and incredibly solid, with a variety of sound to produce a great showcase set, it is poppy enough to please the young Sugababes fans, but indie enough to grab an older fanbase as well. April will be big for Dragonette with single and video releases penciled in, but I think by the summer everyone will know about them!!!!!!!

Performing their greatest hits to a sold out Plymouth Pavilions last Wednesday night were the sensational Sugababes.
With two million singles sold including four number ones, and five million album sales including three triple platinum discs in the UK, the Sugababes have had more top 10 singles than the Spice Girls, All Saints or Destiny's Child. In fact, they have had more top 10 hits with original songs than any girl group since The Supremes.
As they strutted around the stage and gyrated around the microphone clad in sparkly tops and skinny jeans they had the audience mesmerised, belting out recent hits such as Round Round, and Walk This Way - a former number one and used as this year's Comic Relief theme tune - as well as older hits including Overload, Freak Like Me and a powerful performance of Stronger, sung with passion and raw emotion.
There was a surprisingly good cover version of Primal Scream's Get Your Rocks Off, which sent the crowd wild, and an encore which was a dazzling light extravaganza with thousands of bits of shiny paper billowing down onto the crowd while the Sugababes belted out Push the Button, ending with a blast of fireworks.
A great show which certainly proved that the Sugababes are at the top of their game, yet I suspect there is much more success yet to come.
