Hollis – AKA the
Deadringer
The Dead Bettys
The
American Meatloaf experience
worked hard to produced a great show at Plymouth Pavilions. He describes
himself as the only genuine American Meatloaf tribute artist and I was
expecting yet another tribute band playing the best-known songs from their
chosen artist. Yet Dead Ringer From Hell the meatloaf experience is a lot
more than just that. Yes he looked the part and yes he sounded the part, but
the performance that he put on with his backing singers was as described “A
Meatloaf Experience”. Arriving on stage on a Harley Davidson not only did he
start with my favourite and most loved songs that Meatloaf has to offer, I
would do anything for you, this was superbly mixed with a few romantic
ballads and songs from outside of the Meatloaf back catalog such as 'Sisters
are doing it for themselves, and Rock,n,Roll Meatloaf’s song from he Rocky
Horror, Hollis and his backing singers the Dead Betty's played out the
love/hate story of himself and Ginger. it was all put together with some
brilliant and at times humourous dialogue in-between each song. Although the
audience turnout was a very poor one, which did dampen the atmosphere a
little, they made sure that everyone was up and dancing throughout the
evening. I was also surprised to see that the band had to follow music
sheets to every song which spoiled it slightly for me, but other than that
it was a performance I would certainly go to see again, and if the poor
turnout was because people thought it would just be another tribute artist,
as I did before I went, then they missed out on a brilliant night.
